Sulaymaniyah Grand Mosque – Dome Tilework Project
Completed: July 2024 | Location: Sulaymaniyah, Iraq | Main Contractor: Erfan International Tile Co. | PD: Architect Rebaz Mahmood Rashid
In July 2024, Erfan International Tile Co. completed the full design, production, and installation of handmade ceramic tilework for the dome of the Sulaymaniyah Grand Mosque in Iraq. Under the leadership of Architect Rebaz Mahmood Rashid (Project Director), the dome design was developed to reflect both Persian Islamic artistry and local cultural identity. At the suggestion of the Project Director, a distinct symbol representing Sulaymaniyah’s cultural heritage was integrated into the dome’s tile pattern. This custom symbol, uniquely designed by Eitile’s in-house team, was seamlessly combined with traditional Persian motifs to create a powerful visual statement—honoring the region’s identity while preserving classical Islamic elegance.
The tiles were handcrafted using the traditional Haft Rang (Seven Colors) method, incorporating vibrant glazes in shades of turquoise, cobalt blue, navy, white, and sky blue. Each tile was carefully produced by skilled artisans at Eitile’s workshops, then meticulously installed on the dome’s curved surface with precise geometric alignment. This project not only showcases technical excellence but also embodies a deep respect for both artistic heritage and local symbolism, reinforcing Erfan International Tile Co. as a global leader in bespoke handmade tilework for Islamic architecture.
